Chemical peels are a non-surgical means of skin rejuvenation. A chemical peel is a procedure that involves using different substances to damage the skin in order to create inflammation and predictable healing, resulting in a more youthful appearance with tighter skin.
Laser treatments can be utilized for skin resurfacing. Both carbon dioxide lasers and erbium lasers can be used for this purpose. Erbium lasers provide for less downtime than the carbon dioxide laser. These procedures often need to be performed in a certified operating room with IV sedation or general anesthesia
Platelet Rich Plasma Injections
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a solution derived from a patient’s own blood. It can be injected into different areas of the body, including the face, for rejuvenation. It can be done in combination with other procedures.
Profound ® Treatment
The Profound® is a temperature-controlled radiofrequency microneedling device. It has been shown to increase elastin levels in the skin up to 5X and collagen levels up to 2X. It can be used for skin tightening of the face and neck, as well as for tightening skin in other areas of the body, such as the abdomen. This device can also be utilized in the treatment of cellulite.
Platelet Rich Plasma Injections
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a solution derived from a patient’s own blood. It can be injected into different areas of the body, including scalp, for rejuvenation. PRP injections can be a useful tool in hair restoration as an independent treatment or adjunct to hair transplantation.
Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure typically done under local anesthesia. In the procedure, small units of hair, or follicles, are moved to areas of thinning hair on the scalp. The transplanted hairs retain the characteristics of the area in which they were taken, known as the donor site. Dr. Aliano Messina offers hair transplantation with both the ARTAS ® system and Neograft ®.
Surgery of the Breast and Body
Breast augmentation is a procedure that can be used to enhance the volume of the breasts. Breast augmentation may be performed with saline or silicone implants. The breast implant is one of the most studied medical devices.
Many patients who undergo breast augmentation require a secondary procedure in the future. Removal of scar around the breast implant capsule (capsulectomy), implant exchange, breast implant pocket revision, and removal of unwanted or ruptured implants can be performed.
Mastopexy (Breast Lift)
A breast lift is a procedure to address sagging breasts. The procedure often involves the removal of excess breast skin and repositioning of the nipples.
A breast reduction is a procedure in which the volume of a patient’s breasts is reduced. Often, patients with large breasts experience upper back, neck, and shoulder pain, as well as rashes in the breast folds and skin grooving. A breast reduction can improve these symptoms and usually results in a lift, as well.
Abdominoplasty is a procedure in which excess skin and fat from the abdomen is removed. In many cases, the separation of the rectus abdominus muscles, known as diastasis recti, can be repaired if present. This is often seen in patients after pregnancy.
Liposuction is a procedure in which excess fat is removed from the body. It can be utilized for body contouring, including abdominal etching.
Fat grafting is a procedure in which fat is removed from one part of the body, usually with liposuction, and transferred to another portion of the body to enhance volume or correct a shape or deformity. It can be used as an alternative to implants in augmenting breast volume.
Skin Lesion Removal and Mass Excisions
Small skin lesions and masses, such as cysts and lipomas, can be removed in the office under local anesthesia. Larger masses and lesions often require removal under anesthesia in a certified operating room.
Scars usually take a full year to mature. Depending upon a variety of factors, including genetics, some scars may not heal in the most aesthetically-pleasing manner. Scar revision can be used to potentially improve the appearance of scars, including those that are tethered, or keloid and hypertrophic scars.
Some patients may experience stretching of earlobe piercings or even complete tears of the earlobe. This issue can usually be repaired under local anesthesia in the office.
Sculptra Buttock Augmentation/Hip Contouring
Sculptra® is the trade name for poly-L-lactic acid. It is an injectable that can be utilized off-label to provide a non-surgical buttock augmentation. It can also be utilized off-label for contouring of the hips. This product stimulates collagen formation. Patients usually require multiple sessions; the procedure is performed in the office.
